This photograph shows a posterior view of a seated patient’s back, demonstrating an extensive bite-associated rash caused by the straw itch mite, Pyemotes ventricosus. The image was captured 48 hours after initiation of treatment with the antihistamine Benadryl and the anti-inflammatory agent hydrocortisone. This case was documented in DeKalb County, Georgia, in June 1962. See PHIL 27349 for a close-up view of these inflamed papules.
