This image depicted a close view of a multilocular cyst caused by the parasitic tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis. The cyst was uncovered during the necropsy of a gerbil. The presence of this cyst inside the gerbil, represented one of the lifecycle stages through which E. multilocularis passes, while inside an infected host.
