This image depicts a montage of four fundoscopic views of various patients’ retinas, also referred to eyegrounds, revealing some of the pathologic changes caused by the hereditary disease sickle cell anemia. The upper left depicts the left retina in a patient with the SC genotype, or sickle cell-hemoglobin C. The upper right image shows the right retina, also in a patient with the SC genotype, or sickle cell-hemoglobin C. The lower left image shows the left retina in a patient with the SS hemoglobin genotype, while revealing the pathology that resulted from sickle cell disease. The lower right image also shows the left retina in a patient also with the SS hemoglobin genotype, and also reveals the pathology that resulted from sickle cell disease.
