Caption:
This illustration depicts the transmission cycles through which the bacterial infection, plague, progresses as it moves from host to host, including both domestic transmission and transmission within the sylvatic, or wild, environment. In both settings, the primary vector is the infective flea, which transmits the plague bacterium, Yersinia pestis, between hosts through its bite.
