With the patient’s head tilted back and mouth open, the hard palate of the oral cavity is visible, showing erosion of the palatal mucosa due to a lesion diagnosed as rhinoscleroma, a bacterial infection of the nasopharyngeal region. The disease is caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae subsp. rhinoscleromatis.
