Entitled Brucella, this illustration depicts three microscopic views of bacterial culture growth. The far-left micrograph shows growth of Brucella abortus, which will primarily infect bovine species. The middle micrograph reveals the growth of B. suis, which primarily infects swine, while the far-right image reveals bacterial growth of B. melitensis organisms, which primarily infect sheep and goats. Humans, too, can be infected with each of these species through zoonotic transmission.
