This photograph shows a close frontal view of a CDC Lombard-Dowell (LD) Presumpto Plate II quadrant plate containing LD agar supplemented with glucose and gelatin. Each quadrant was inoculated with a different unspecified anaerobic bacterium to assess gelatinase production. A positive reaction produces a zone of clearing in the cloudy agar surrounding bacterial growth on the agar surface. Quadrant A demonstrates a positive reaction, quadrant B a weakly positive reaction, and quadrant C a negative reaction. Frazier’s solution, composed of mercuric chloride (15.0 g), concentrated HCl (20.0 ml), and distilled water (100.0 ml), was used to demonstrate gelatin hydrolysis.
