This photograph shows a close frontal view of a CDC Lombard-Dowell (LD) Presumpto Plate II quadrant plate, focusing on the quadrant containing LD agar supplemented with soluble starch. This quadrant was inoculated with an unspecified anaerobic bacterium to assess starch hydrolysis. Gram’s iodine was applied to reveal areas of hydrolysis. A positive reaction produces a zone of clearing surrounding bacterial growth; here, no such clearing is observed, indicating a negative starch hydrolysis result. The dark brown coloration indicates regions where starch remains unhydrolyzed.
