This photograph shows a close frontal view of a CDC Lombard-Dowell (LD) Presumpto Plate II quadrant plate containing LD agar supplemented with deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and the indicator toluidine blue. Each quadrant was inoculated with a different unspecified anaerobic bacterium to assess DNase (deoxyribonuclease) activity. DNA hydrolysis is indicated by a color change in the medium; quadrants 3 and 4 demonstrate positive reactions (with quadrant 3 showing a weaker reaction), while quadrants 1 and 2 show no color change, indicating negative results.
