This photograph shows a close frontal view of a CDC Lombard-Dowell (LD) Presumpto Plate II quadrant plate containing LD agar supplemented with starch. Each quadrant was prepared to assess starch hydrolysis following inoculation with unspecified bacteria; quadrant 1 was left uninoculated as a control. Iodine was applied to reveal areas of hydrolysis, which appear as zones of clearing against the dark brown background. Quadrant 4 demonstrates a positive reaction, while quadrants 2 and 3 show no clearing, indicating negative results.
