This photograph shows a close frontal view of a CDC Lombard-Dowell (LD) Presumpto Plate I quadrant plate, focusing on a quadrant containing LD egg yolk agar (EYA). This quadrant was inoculated with an unspecified anaerobic bacterium to assess proteolytic (protease) activity. A positive reaction is indicated by a zone of clearing in the medium surrounding bacterial growth; here, a distinct area of clearing is visible, consistent with a positive proteolytic reaction.
