Under a magnification of 1.0X, this image shows a close view of the surface of an egg yolk agar (EYA) culture plate inoculated with the bacterium Clostridium botulinum type A. After a 48-hour incubation period, numerous colonies are visible, each exhibiting an iridescent, pearly sheen over and surrounding the growth, consistent with lipase activity.
