This 1966 image shows an oblique view of a tissue disintegrator-homogenizer known as a Mickle machine®, manufactured by Mickle Laboratories. The device was used in laboratory settings to disrupt cells, tissues, microorganisms, or concentrated pellets in solution for further analysis. Also referred to as a Mickle shaker, the image shows a test tube containing a dark substance secured within the shaker arm, which is wrapped in plastic to contain contaminants during vigorous agitation.
