Captured in 1957, this historic image shows two public health laboratorians working inside the Montgomery, Alabama Influenza Laboratory. Seated on the left is Roslyn Q. Robinson, Ph.D., Chief of the Respirovirus Unit and the International Influenza Center for the Americas, Virology Section, Laboratory Branch, who is harvesting fluid from embryonated chicken eggs inoculated with influenza virus. This fluid contains high concentrations of virus and is used in the preparation of diagnostic antigens, vaccines, and for laboratory studies.
