This historic image, captured in 1960, depicts an activity taking place during the Rhode Island polio epidemic. Dr. Barrett is shown administering a polio vaccination to an infant held by the child’s mother. The vaccine was delivered to the baby’s right buttock using a Hypospray® jet injector.
