This 1975 photograph was taken during an epidemiologic investigation of an encephalitis outbreak in an unidentified location in the states of North Dakota and western Minnesota. Details of the investigation findings are not available. The image shows a propeller-driven aircraft at an unidentified airport, used to conduct aerial surveys assessing the extent of severe flooding in the surrounding area. In the foreground are several 50-gallon drums containing the insecticide Cythion (Malathion 50% EC), intended for mosquito control to reduce the potential spread of arboviral diseases during the flooding event. This image was provided by Dr. John C. Harris of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Bureau of Epidemiology.
