This 1975 photograph was taken during an epidemiologic investigation of an encephalitis outbreak in an unidentified location in the states of North Dakota and western Minnesota. Details of the investigation findings are not available. The image shows propeller-driven aircraft on the tarmac of an unidentified airport, used to conduct aerial surveys assessing the extent of severe flooding in the surrounding area. These aircraft were also used to apply insecticide to flooded areas to control local mosquito populations with the potential to transmit arboviral pathogens. This image was provided by Dr. John C. Harris of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Bureau of Epidemiology.
