This 1975 photograph was taken during an epidemiologic investigation of an encephalitis outbreak in an unidentified location in the states of North Dakota and western Minnesota. Details of the investigation findings are not available. The image shows the interior of a propeller-driven aircraft equipped with a tank and spray apparatus enabling the aircraft to apply insecticide to flooded areas to control local mosquito populations with the potential to transmit arboviral pathogens. This image was provided by Dr. John C. Harris of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Bureau of Epidemiology.
