This image consists of a photomicrographic montage of six panels showing viral pocks formed on the surface of chorioallantoic membranes (CAM) from embryonated hen eggs, each inoculated with a different virus and incubated for 72 hours at 35°C. Panel A shows ectromelia virus; B, gerbilpox virus; C, raccoonpox virus; D, variola major virus (strain Harvey); E, herpes simplex virus (HSV) type I; and F, herpes simplex virus (HSV) type II. Note the morphologic similarities and differences among the viral pocks following incubation.
