Caption:
This photograph depicts a Petri dish culture plate that contained an unidentified growth medium, which had been inoculated with Gram-negative, Enterobacter sakazakii (top), and E. cloacae (bottom) bacteria. This was an antibiogram study comparing each organism’s sensitivity to two different antimicrobial agents, cephalothin (CF) and ampicillin (AM), which had been soaked into the white disks that were then laid upon the agar surface. The ensuing halos around the disks at the top, indicated that E. sakazakii was sensitive to both the CF and AM, while the lack of halos on the bottom, indicated that E. cloacae was not sensitive to the agents.
