Wearing his Public Health Service uniform, this image depicts a photographic portrait of J. Donald Millar, M.D., M.P.H., former Director of the Smallpox Eradication Campaign in West and Central Africa. Dr. Millar was a physician trained in epidemiology with extensive experience in infectious disease control, as well as occupational and environmental health. He also served as Assistant Surgeon General and as Director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) for two terms from 1981 to 1993.
