This historic photograph, captured on November 9, 1977, depicts a group of dignitaries outside the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in the portico of what was then Building 1 on the Roybal Campus during a CDC hearing on Legionnaires’ disease. In the foreground, from left to right, are panel Chairman Senator Edward M. Kennedy (striped tie) and Senator Richard S. Schweiker (dark suit), while at far right is then CDC Director William H. Foege, M.D., M.P.H.
