In the left foreground, CDC photographer Bill Lang is shown documenting the examination of a diamondback rattlesnake, Crotalus adamanteus, conducted by Dr. Reiner (center) and L.D. Gehrken, who is holding the snake above the white surface on which it had been placed while measurements are being recorded.
