Captured in 1956, this historic photograph shows former Training Officer in Charge Joseph E. Borches standing at the front of a class of trainees. Although the course subject is unknown, the blackboard contains the words "mite," "ticks," "lice," "bedbugs," and "fleas," along with the notations "10% DDT" and "1% LIN," referring to the insecticides DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) and lindane (gamma benzene hexachloride, gamma-BHC, or ?-HCH). These references suggest that the course may have included instruction in arthropod identification and insect control methods.
