Captured in 1945, this historic photograph shows the interior of the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) field station located on Ichauway Plantation in Baker County, Georgia. The facility developed through "...a cooperative endeavor of Emory University, the Georgia Department of Public Health, the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Public Health Service," and although it retained the name Emory University Field Station, by the mid-1940s it functioned as a USPHS field station. The facility supported investigations of malaria, mosquito ecology, vector biology, and medical entomology.
