In the foreground, CDC virologist Karl M. Johnson, MD, is seated while working inside one of the laboratory's containment cabinets. In the background, pathologist James V. Lange, PhD, is standing while working inside another containment cabinet. Both scientists are wearing positive-pressure, airtight protective suits supplied with breathable air through the coiled hoses attached to each suit.
