Captured in 1978 inside a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Maximum Containment Laboratory (MCL), this historic photograph shows a member of the laboratory staff, wearing a positive-pressure protective suit, using a data facsimile transmitter to communicate information outside the containment area. The device transmitted data over standard telephone lines to locations elsewhere at CDC and other facilities.
