Captured in 1978, this historic photograph shows Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Special Pathogens Branch pathologist James V. Lange, PhD, removing a fresh positive-pressure protective suit from the storage room inside the Maximum Containment Laboratory (MCL). Dr. Lange would don this personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain a sealed barrier between himself and the highly pathogenic organisms being studied within the laboratory.
