Captured on April 3, 1957, this historic photograph shows Communicable Disease Center (CDC) bacteriologist Alan Bernstein, PhD, and laboratorian Mayme C. Colvin working inside the Virus and Rickettsia Section, Laboratory Branch, at the Cumberland Field Station in Montgomery, Alabama. Here, Dr. Bernstein and Ms. Colvin were reading the results of a polio antibody test performed using a rapid plastic plate method.
