Captured in 1978, this historic photograph shows Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer Robert M. Castellan, MD, MPH, a member of the EIS Class of 1978. Following his EIS service, Dr. Castellan continued his career with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), where his research focused on occupational respiratory diseases and workplace exposures, including studies involving cotton dust inhalation, known as byssinosis, occupational asthma, and other respiratory hazards.
