Captured in 1978, this historic photograph shows Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer Carl William Armstrong, MD, a member of the EIS Class of 1978. During his EIS service, Dr. Armstrong was assigned to the Virginia Department of Health, where he participated in epidemiologic and communicable disease investigations. Following completion of the EIS program, Dr. Armstrong continued his career in public health with the Virginia Department of Health, ultimately serving as Director of the Office of Epidemiology.
