Captured in 1978, this historic photograph shows Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer Donald T. Allegra, MD, a member of the EIS Class of 1978. During his EIS service, Dr. Allegra participated in international public health activities, including the Khmer refugee-assistance operation in Thailand. Following his EIS service, he completed a fellowship in infectious diseases and continued a long career as an infectious disease specialist, including hospital epidemiology, infection control, and international medical work.
