Captured in 1978, this historic photograph shows Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer Roger H. Bernier, PhD, MPH, a member of the EIS Class of 1978. Following his EIS service, Dr. Bernier continued a long career at CDC, where his work focused on vaccine-preventable diseases, immunization policy, vaccine safety, and childhood vaccination coverage. He later served as Associate Director for Science in CDC’s National Immunization Program and contributed to efforts to improve public understanding of and engagement with vaccination.
