This is a montage of three images, each highlighting various morphologic characteristics exhibited by the fungal organism Saksenaea vasiformis. Image 1 depicts a photomicrograph viewed under a magnification of 400X and reveals histopathologic changes in a necrotic muscle tissue specimen infected with S. vasiformis. Image 2 features a frontal view of a fungal culture plate containing Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA), on which a single large, woolly S. vasiformis colony had developed. Image 3 is another photomicrograph, viewed under a magnification of 720X, highlighting the morphology of a single flask-shaped S. vasiformis sporangium. Sporulation was induced by cultivation on hay-infusion agar followed by flotation on sterile distilled water. The specimen was prepared as a lactophenol cotton blue teased mount.
