This illustration, entitled “Leg of a Tick”, highlights the principal anatomical segments that comprise each of the eight legs of a nymphal or adult tick. These include the coxa, trochanter, femur, tibia, metatarsus, and tarsus. The illustration also identifies Haller’s organ, a specialized sensory structure located on the tarsus of the first pair of legs that assists the tick in detecting environmental cues associated with potential hosts.
