This illustration, entitled “Ventral Aspects of a Male Hard Tick”, highlights anatomical structures visible on the ventral surface of an adult male hard tick. These include the capitulum, four pairs of legs (I–IV) and their coxae, genital pore, spiracular plates, anus, and anal groove. Several of these structures, including the coxae, spiracular plates, and position and configuration of the anal groove, can provide important morphological characteristics used in tick identification and classification.
