Caption:
This illustration depicts a dorsal view of a fowl tick, Argas persicus, a species of soft tick associated primarily with poultry and other birds. Characteristic features illustrated include its broadly oval, flattened body, leathery dorsal surface, and the absence of a dorsal scutum. As is characteristic of soft ticks, the capitulum is located on the ventral surface and is not visible from this dorsal perspective.
