This historic photograph, captured on July 1, 1964, provides a southward view of construction underway at the Communicable Disease Center (CDC) headquarters campus on Clifton Road in Atlanta, Georgia. The photograph focuses on construction taking place at the northwestern corner of Building 2, where extensive excavation has exposed the building’s foundation and surrounding subsurface terrain. Newly constructed concrete foundation walls, formwork, reinforcing steel, temporary wooden supports, and other construction materials document the expansion taking shape adjacent to the existing building.
