This historic photograph, captured in 1973, depicts a laboratory aquarium containing aquatic vegetation and numerous Biomphalaria glabrata snails. This freshwater snail species serves as an intermediate host for the parasitic trematode Schistosoma mansoni, one of the schistosome species that can infect humans and cause the disease schistosomiasis.
