This photograph, captured in August 1973, depicts a Center for Disease Control (CDC) laboratory technician holding a screened container housing a number of unidentified triatomine insects. Triatomines, commonly known as kissing bugs or cone-nose bugs, are blood-feeding insects, some species of which can transmit the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas disease.
