This patient had been diagnosed with gonococcal urethritis, and presented with unilateral gonococcal conjunctivitis. See PHIL 16400, for the appearance of her eye 24 hours following treatment with 4.8 million units of aqueous procaine penicillin G (APPG), and probenecid. If left untreated, Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria may spread to the bloodstream, and thereby, throughout the body. The most common symptoms following systemic dissemination include rash, joint pains, conjunctivitis, as well as other generalized symptoms.
