This photograph depicts a 45yr-old female patient from the Ivory Coast, who was displaying a facial lesion, and underlying bone deformity, as a result of a late tertiary yaws infection. This patient’s Venereal Disease Research Laboratory test, or VDRL, produced a positive result of 1:16, and was accompanied by the microhemagglutination assay (MHA-TP) test, which was also reactive, or positive. See PHIL 3823, for a view of this patient's accompanying lower leg abnormality, known as a saber shin deformity.
