Caption:
These early papillomata of two weeks duration, developed on the back of this 30yr-old female yaws patient. See PHIL 3835, for a view of an ulcerative, papillomatous lesion on this patient's left breast that proved to be the initial site of the yaws infection, after she had breastfed her 13-month-old infant. The Venereal Disease Research Laboratory test, or VDRL, produced a positive result of 1:8, and was accompanied by the microhemagglutination assay (MHA-TP) test, which was also reactive, or positive. Treatment for this patient consisted of an intramuscular injection of 2.4 mega units of benzathine benzylpenicillin. For a view of this patient's chin before, and after one week of treatment, see PHIL 3824 and 3839 respectively. These early, highly infectious papillomatous lesions, characteristically appear as large, yellow, and crusty.
