Caption:
This is a photomicrograph of a Brown and Brenn stained tissue specimen extracted from a patient with a case of botryomycosis, due to the Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The specimen was harvested from a draining lower abdominal lesion, and though botryomycosis in humans is usually localized to the skin, this case showed that the disease may involve other organs such as the abdominal viscera.
