This photomicrograph of a liver tissue specimen that had been harvested during an autopsy, revealed the histopathologic changes attributed to a case of toxic shock syndrome (TSS). This liver section was treated with hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) stain, revealing a condition referred to as triaditis, which is an inflammation of the liver triads, and includes a mononuclear cell infiltrate, the presence of rare eosinophils, and an inflammation of the biliary tree elements, known as sporadic cholangitis.
