Caption:
This 1976 photograph depicted these workers, who were replacing a section of water pipe, after a local chlordane contamination took place in a Chattanooga, TN, neighborhood. In March of that year, a section of the public water system supplying 105 people with drinking water was contaminated with chlordane, a chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticide. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Stewart Laboratories of Knoxville, TN, tested the water samples that confirmed this finding.
