Caption:
In this photograph, a boy was displaying a deformity of his right extremity, which had been the result of his polio infection, caused by the poliovirus, a member of the genus, Enterovirus. This young man was also showing how he was able to use a camera, which had been outfitted with attachments that supported the camera against his chest, allowing him to operate the camera with his unaffected left hand alone. After initial oropharyngeal inoculation, and multiplication, the virus enters the bloodstream, thereby, finding its way to the central nervous system, and infecting the motor neurons of the anterior horn of the spinal cord, and within the brain itself.
