Caption:
This is a dorsal view of an imported worker fire ant, Solenopsis saevissima var. richteri, a native to South America, that was introduced to the United States through the importation of agricultural products. The name fire ant is due to the fact that their bite causes a severe burning sensation. Note the colorless pupal staged fire above the adult ant.
