This historic 1965 photograph, depicted Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) staff member, Jim Hegner, working inside a plastic isolator, which had been situated in the mouse breeding facility, on the organization’s Chamblee, Georgia campus. At the time, the CDC was known as the Communicable Disease Center, and was under the auspices of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW).
