This image of a sectioned human heart, extracted at the time of this patient’s autopsy, depicts a superior view of the mitral valve, and reveals the gross pathologic changes in the valve’s morphology, including thickening of the valve leaflets, and valvular stenosis, or a reduced luminal diameter.
